From the Ground Up is a collaboration between Groundswell and The Pavement Magazine. Our volunteer Peer Journalists use their lived experience of homelessness to report on issues that are important to homeless people and explore solutions.
The Pavement Magazine
We report on the issues that matter to people experiencing homelessness and work to identify solutions, led by people who know best – those who have been there themselves. Our Peer Journalists are trained and supported to use their lived experience to work with homeless people. Then take their findings directly to service staff, policy makers and people experiencing homelessness to bring about change.
We’ve got stories from Jeremy exploring the difficulties getting treatment when you’ve got mental health and addiction issues; Julz looks at how squatters have responded to the ban in residential squatting and Steph finds some lessons to be learnt from the services provided for veterans to prevent homelessness. We lost our friend and colleague Jimmy Carlson’s OBE in January, Mat’s written a tribute to an inspirational life.
